Welcome to the Museum of Local History Sierndorf/March!

The Museum of Local History Sierndorf/March was founded in 1968 by OSR Alfred Schultes, the last principal of the local primary school. In ccoperation with Josef Bauer, the former mayor of Jedenspeigen, parts of the building of the closed school (in the beginning just one classroom, the vestibule and parts of the teacher´s appartment) were re-opened as "Urgeschichtliche und heimatkundliche Sammlung" in 1976.

After the death of OSR Schultes in 1993, his family, specifically his grandson Martin Stohl,  took over the leadership of the museum.

Over the years the exhibition was enlarged, so that currently the whole building (including the old schoolyard with an outbuilding and two large canopies) contains nearly 5000 samples of local history from the stone ages until the late 1980s.

The exhibition is structured in the following categories:

  • Archaeological exhibition
  • One of the largest collection of bricks in lower Austria
  • A complete classroom around 1950
  • examples of professions located in Sierndorf in former times (tailor, carpenter, farmer, baker,  cobbler, merchant,)
  • household and personal effects from 1900 - 1970
  • farming equipment from the last century
  • wine & winemaking
